Yes, with the recipient's consent. You place the order, the kit ships to you or them, and the recipient completes their own cheek swab. A consent form is included.

The DNA kit arrives in 2 to 3 working days. After your swab is received, handcrafting and delivery take a further 7 to 14 working days.

What materials does DesigNA use?

Silver and Pearl pieces are solid 925 sterling silver, the Gold piece is solid 9ct gold. All stones are genuine natural semi precious gemstones sourced in the UK.

What is the return policy?

Once production has begun the piece cannot be returned because it is unique to your DNA. Before production starts, or for damage in transit, we will refund or replace.

Freshwater pearls and natural semi precious stones are arranged in the exact sequence your genetic code dictates, so no two are ever alike. Each necklace begins with a DNA collection kit posted free to your door. A short cheek swab, sent back to our UK laboratory, generates the sequence used for your design. Your finished necklace is handcrafted by our partner jeweller in Birmingham, certified, and arrives in our signature packaging within 7 to 14 working days from receipt of your sample at the lab.

Yes. The Pearl DNA Profile Necklace uses genuine cultured freshwater pearls, 5 to 6mm round, hand selected for lustre and consistency. Each pearl is matched into your sequence by hand at our partner jeweller in Birmingham.

What stones sit between the pearls?+

Every marker appears as a coloured stone along your piece, in the exact order your DNA places them, with the metal beads holding the spaces between. Each stone is 4mm. Common picks include lapis lazuli, amethyst, citrine, garnet, and aventurine. The arrangement is dictated entirely by your DNA, not chosen for visual balance.

How do I care for a pearl necklace?+

Wear last, remove first. Apply perfume, hairspray and skincare before putting the necklace on. Wipe gently with a soft cloth after wear. Store flat in the supplied jewellery box, not hanging. Avoid prolonged exposure to water, salt, or chlorine. With basic care, freshwater pearls keep their lustre for decades.

Does the necklace contain my actual DNA?

No. Your DNA is read in the laboratory and destroyed after profiling. The necklace carries a pattern of genuine semi precious stones representing your unique genetic markers, the same kind of profile used to identify a person from their DNA. The pattern is yours. The sample is not in the jewellery.

How is my DNA kept private?

Your sample is processed by a laboratory, in full compliance with UK GDPR and the Human Tissue Act 2004. We read only the markers needed for your pattern, your sample is destroyed after analysis, and your DNA is never shared, sold, or stored long term.

What do I actually have to do?

Very little. Order your piece, and a collection kit arrives within 2 to 3 working days. Take a painless cheek swab, about thirty seconds, seal it in the prepaid envelope and post it back. We handle the rest and your finished necklace reaches you in about three weeks from ordering.

Can I order it as a gift for someone else?

Yes, with their consent. You place the order, the kit is sent to your address or theirs, and the recipient takes their own swab. A consent form is included. Many people also like to gift the sealed kit itself, so the recipient is part of the surprise from the start.

How long does the whole process take?

The DNA kit arrives in 2 to 3 working days. After we receive your returned swab, laboratory analysis, handcrafting and delivery take a further 7 to 14 working days. Most customers receive their finished necklace within about three weeks of ordering.
