Why DesigNA

Jewellery that could never exist twice.

Anyone can engrave a name. Only you can provide your DNA. Each DesigNA piece is mapped from your unique genetic profile — by science, not sentiment alone.

01

Written in your DNA

Your STR genetic profile is translated, marker by marker, into the pattern of stones in your necklace. The probability of two unrelated people sharing it: less than 1 in a billion.

02

Stone, your meaning

Choose from nine semi-precious stones across five colour families — each with its own traditional meaning. Explore the stones →

03

Crafted by hand in the UK

Every piece is handcrafted in our County Durham studio after analysis at our UKAS ISO-accredited laboratory partner. Delivered in 7–14 working days, with a certificate of authenticity.

Questions, answered

Before you order

Everything you might want to know.

Does the necklace contain my actual DNA?
No. Your DNA is read in our laboratory and destroyed after profiling. The necklace contains a pattern of semi-precious stones representing your unique STR markers — the same forensic-grade pattern used to identify a person from their DNA. The pattern is yours; the sample is not in the jewellery.
How is my DNA kept private?
Your sample is processed by Complement Genomics Ltd, a UKAS ISO-accredited laboratory, in full compliance with UK GDPR and the Human Tissue Act 2004. We only read the markers needed for your pattern, your sample is destroyed after analysis, and your DNA is never shared, sold, or stored long-term.
Can I order it as a gift for someone else?
Yes — with their consent. You place the order, the kit is sent to your address (or theirs), and the recipient takes the swab themselves. A consent form is included. Many customers also like to gift the experience as a sealed kit, so the recipient is in on the surprise.
How long does the whole process take?
The DNA kit arrives in 2–3 working days. After we receive your returned swab, lab analysis + handcrafting + delivery is a further 7–14 working days. Most customers receive their finished necklace within ~3 weeks of ordering.
What materials do you use?
The Silver and Pearl pieces use solid 925 sterling silver. The Gold piece uses solid 9ct gold. All necklaces feature genuine, natural semi-precious stones — never lab-grown or imitation — sourced from established UK suppliers.
What if I make a mistake with the swab?
Email us at [email protected] and we’ll send a replacement kit free of charge. The swab itself takes about 30 seconds — we’ve had very few issues.
What’s your return policy?
Because every piece is handcrafted from your individual genetic profile, returns aren’t possible once production has begun. Before then — or if anything is damaged in transit — we’ll refund or replace immediately. Email [email protected].
