Your DNA & Your Privacy
We handle your most personal data with the seriousness it deserves. Here is exactly what we do — and what we never do — with your DNA.
Our Five Privacy Commitments
1. We only read what we need
Our laboratory analyses only your STR (Short Tandem Repeat) markers — a set of identity numbers. We do not read, analyse, or store any health, ancestry, or disease-risk information. The science simply doesn’t work that way: STR profiling is entirely separate from health or ancestry testing.
2. Your physical sample is destroyed
Once your STR profile has been generated, your cheek swab and any extracted DNA is destroyed by the laboratory. We never retain, bank, or store your raw biological material. It cannot be retrieved, re-tested, or used for any other purpose.
3. Your data is never sold or shared
Your STR profile is used exclusively to manufacture your jewellery. We do not sell, share, rent, or disclose your genetic data to any third party — not insurers, employers, research bodies, or advertisers. Ever.
4. We are fully UK GDPR compliant
Genetic data is classified as “special category” data under UK GDPR, which means it carries the highest level of legal protection. We treat it accordingly — with explicit consent, secure storage, and strict access controls.
5. You can request deletion at any time
Under UK GDPR you have the right to erasure. At any point after your order, you can contact us at sales@mydesigna.co.uk to request permanent deletion of your STR profile data from our systems.

Common questions
Who can access my genetic data?
Your DNA data is held by the accredited laboratory and securely shared with the DesigNA design team, who translate it into a design template, simply a formation of colours along the piece. That template contains none of your actual genetic detail, and it is all the jewellers ever receive. The makers never see your DNA profile.
How long do you keep my sample and data?
Your physical sample is destroyed immediately after analysis, and your marker data is deleted once your piece has shipped. Nothing is retained long term.
Can I request deletion of my data under GDPR?
Yes. Under UK GDPR you can ask us to delete some or all of your data at any time, simply email sales@mydesigna.co.uk and we will action it.
Could my DNA be used to identify me elsewhere?
No. We only read your identity profile to create your design, and nothing is retained afterwards. Your sample is destroyed and your data deleted, so there is no stored genetic information that could identify you.
