DNA Bracelet Sizing: Will It Fit? Sliders and Extensions Explained

Somebody asked us this through the site chat last week, and it is a fair question to want answered before spending 179 pounds on something made specifically for you. A bracelet that does not fit is worse than no bracelet, and unlike a jumper you cannot simply size up.

The short version is that every DesigNA bracelet adjusts. There are two ways it does that, and which one you get depends on the style rather than on anything you need to specify at checkout.

You do not choose a size

This is the part that catches people out, so it is worth stating plainly. There is no size dropdown when you order, and that is not an oversight. Our bracelets are built to adjust rather than to be made to a measurement, which removes the most common reason a personalised piece goes wrong.

You order the style you like. It arrives adjustable.

The spider slider

Our spider bracelets fasten with a slider, sometimes called a spider clasp. Rather than clipping shut at a fixed point, the bracelet runs through a small sliding fastening that grips wherever you leave it.

To put it on, you open it out, slip it over your hand, and pull the ends until it sits where you want. To take it off, you push it back the other way. It holds its position while you wear it and moves when you want it to.

This is the more forgiving of the two. It suits a very small wrist, a larger wrist, and anyone who dislikes fiddling with a clasp one handed. It is also the better choice if you are buying for somebody else and you genuinely have no idea of their wrist size.

The lobster clasp and extension chain

Our clasp bracelets fasten with a lobster clasp, the standard small spring clasp you will know from other jewellery, and they carry an extension chain at the other end.

The extension chain is what gives you the range. Rather than one fixed length, you clip into whichever link sits comfortably, which lets the same bracelet sit close on the wrist or a little looser.

At the end of that chain is our small oval tag with the DesigNA helix mark on it, which also gives you something to hold while you fasten it.

Which styles use which

Spider slider: the Spider Silver Clasp, Spider Pearl Clasp, Spider Silver and Gold, and Spider Pearl and Gold DNA Profile Bracelets.

Lobster clasp with extension: the Pearl Clasp, Silver and Gold Clasp, and all four Twisted DNA Profile Bracelets.

The twisted styles are the fullest in the range, two strands wound into a rope with 5mm spheres, so they sit with a little more presence on the wrist than the fine 2mm styles.

If you are between sizes or buying a gift

We do not publish a printed wrist size guide yet, and we would rather tell you that than invent one. What we would suggest instead:

If you are buying for yourself and you are unsure, choose a spider style. The slider removes the question entirely.

If you are buying for somebody else, again, choose a spider style unless you know their size.

Does the pattern change with the size?

No, and this is worth understanding because it is the opposite of how most personalised jewellery works.

The laboratory reads 23 markers from your DNA, and the position of each marker is set by your own profile. Those positions are the design. Adjusting a slider or clipping into a different link on an extension chain changes how the bracelet sits on you. It does not change the marker order, because the marker order is not ours to change.

Looking after it

Once it fits, keeping it right is straightforward. Put it on last when you are getting ready and take it off first. Keep it away from perfume, hairspray and swimming pools, since chlorine is unkind to silver and to gold plating alike. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth rather than soaking it.

Sterling silver darkens over time with wear. That is normal, it is not a fault, and a gentle polish brings it back.
