Gifts for grandparents
A considered thank you, made from them.
A DNA jewellery gift for a grandparent says something a voucher cannot. It is made from their own profile, it comes with a certificate in their name, and the pattern of stones is the one the family carries on. The swab takes thirty seconds and there is nothing to set up.

Why a grandparent
Their pattern is the one the family shares.
Every grandchild carries values inherited from them. A grandparent's piece is the original pattern, and a matching piece for a grandchild made from the grandchild's own profile shows where half of it came from. Pearl is the piece we gift most to grandmothers; the Twisted Silver bracelet suits a grandfather who wears nothing else.
What makes it the gift
Three reasons it suits grandparents.
Why DesigNA
The original pattern
A grandparent's profile is the one the grandchildren inherited half of. Theirs is the piece the family pattern starts from.

Grandparents questions, answered.
Is the swab easy for an older person?
Yes. It is a soft swab rubbed inside the cheek for about a minute, then sealed and posted in the prepaid envelope. There is no needle, no appointment and nothing to do online. Family can post it for them, but the swab is always their own.
Can I take the swab for my grandparent?
No. An adult's DNA is analysed only with their own consent, so they take the swab themselves and sign the form. You can order the piece, give the kit, help them open it and post it back.
Does the profile say anything about their health?
No. The laboratory reads 23 identity markers, the same kind used in identity testing, and nothing else. There is no health, ancestry or medical information in the reading, and the sample is destroyed after profiling.
Can grandchildren have matching pieces?
Yes. Each person needs their own kit, and pieces ordered together get the second half price. The patterns differ because the profiles differ, which is exactly why families like the pair.
What is a good gift for a grandmother who has everything?
Something made from her. The Pearl DNA Profile Necklace at £275 sets her own DNA markers between freshwater pearls, and it comes with a certificate in her name. A grandmother who has every scarf and every photo frame does not have this. The Pearl Clasp DNA Profile Bracelet at £199 is the lighter option.
What is a good gift for a grandfather?
The Twisted Silver DNA Profile Bracelet at £229, two strands of 925 silver wound into a rope with natural stones, or the Twisted Silver and Gold DNA Profile Bracelet with gold markers and no stones for a man who wears nothing else. Both are made from his own profile and arrive boxed with the certificate.
What is a meaningful gift for grandparents from grandchildren?
A piece made from the grandparent's own DNA, which is the pattern the grandchildren inherited half of. Children can put money towards it, and the DesigNA gift card from £50 lets each grandchild give a card. The grandparent then takes the swab themselves and chooses the piece. Browse the full collection.
Is a DNA swab suitable for an elderly person?
Yes. It is a soft swab rubbed inside the cheek for about a minute, with no needle and no appointment. Family can help with the envelope, but the swab is always their own, with their own consent, because that is what the law requires. Read more at how DesigNA works.
Does DesigNA read anything about a grandparent's health?
No. The laboratory reads 23 identity markers, the same kind of reading used for identity testing, and nothing else. There is no health, ancestry or medical content in the profile, the sample is destroyed after profiling, and the marker data is deleted after the piece arrives. See your DNA and privacy.
Can a grandparent and grandchild have matching DNA jewellery?
Yes. Each person needs their own kit, and the second piece in one order is half price. A child's piece needs written consent from a parent or guardian with parental responsibility. The two patterns differ, because the profiles differ, and anyone who knows what they are looking at can see the family in them.
Can I give it as a surprise?
You can surprise them with the kit, not with the swab. An adult's DNA is analysed only with their own consent, so the person who will wear the piece takes their own swab. Most people find the reveal works better anyway: the kit is the moment, and the piece arrives a few weeks later as a second one.
What if I do not know their size?
Nothing is lost if you guess. Necklaces come in 16, 18 or 20 inches and every one carries a 2 inch extender, and every bracelet adjusts on the wrist with an extender chain or a slider.
Does the price include everything?
Yes. The price of the piece covers the kit, the laboratory work, the making, the signed certificate, the box and free UK tracked delivery for both parcels. There is nothing to add at checkout.
