What makes one piece cost more than another

Three things, and none of them is the DNA.

Material. The Gold necklace is 699 pounds because it is built with 9ct gold tubes and a 9ct gold clasp, with gold filled spacers and extender. That is the single biggest jump in the range and it is entirely about what the piece is made of.

Quantity of material. A twisted bracelet is two strands rather than one, so it is 229 pounds against 179 for a fine single strand. A necklace uses more of everything than a bracelet, which is most of the gap between 179 and 299.

Not the analysis. This is the part worth saying clearly. Every piece involves exactly the same laboratory work. The same swab, the same 23 markers, the same reading. A 179 pound bracelet is not a cheaper test. It is the same test in a smaller piece.

What you are actually paying for

Roughly, the money goes three places.

The laboratory. Your sample is analysed by our partner laboratory, with over 25 years in genetic testing, across 23 identity markers. This is real analytical work with real reagents and real machine time, done once, for you.

The making. Every piece is assembled by hand in the UK by our partner jewellers in Birmingham, and it cannot be made before your result comes back, because the result is the design. Nothing sits in a warehouse waiting.

The materials. 925 sterling silver, genuine freshwater pearls, 9ct gold on the gold pieces, and semi precious stones.

Why it is not cheaper

The honest answer is that the laboratory step has a floor price and there is no volume trick that gets underneath it.

A necklace with a name on it can be made in advance, in bulk, and personalised in the last thirty seconds. Ours cannot exist before your sample is read. That is the whole proposition and it is also the whole reason for the price.

If you want personalised jewellery for 40 pounds, it exists, and it is engraved. If you want a piece that is genuinely unrepeatable, this is roughly what that costs.

Ways it costs less

Buy two at once. Two pieces on one order and the second is half price automatically, no code. One kit and one laboratory run cover both, so the saving is real rather than a promotion. It has to be a single order, since we delete marker data after delivery.

Start with a bracelet. At 179 pounds it is the least expensive way in, and the science is identical to the 699 pound necklace.

Choose a pattern style. The silver and gold and pearl and gold pieces carry no stones. The markers show as polished gold spheres instead. Same price band, different look, and some people prefer the quieter version anyway.

What is not included

Nothing hidden, but for completeness: international delivery is not covered by the free UK tracked shipping, and a second piece ordered later needs a fresh kit, because there is no stored profile to reuse.

Is it worth it

Not our call to make, but the useful question is what you are comparing it against.

Against a 40 pound engraved necklace, it is expensive. Against a piece of fine jewellery at a similar price that thousands of other people also own, it is the same money for something that exists once.

The certificate is the part people underrate. It records the genetic data behind your piece, which makes it provably one of one, and it means a damaged piece can be remade true to the same profile.
