The Pattern DNA Necklace: No Stones, Just Gold and Your Genetic Code

The pattern dna necklace carries no stones at all. Gold filled spheres mark each of your 23 DNA positions along a sterling silver strand.

Pattern DNA necklace: the Silver and Gold Pattern DNA Profile Necklace laid flat

Every DesigNA piece reads the same 23 DNA markers. However, the pattern dna necklace shows that reading in a different material altogether. Gold filled spheres sit along a sterling silver strand instead of coloured stones. Each sphere marks one position your own DNA sets. The look sits closer to fine minimal jewellery than a coloured gemstone piece. Underneath, it still carries the exact same personal reading.

What makes a pattern piece different

Our standard necklaces alternate metal tubes and spheres with semi precious stone markers, so the palette itself carries part of the story. The pattern necklace removes the stones entirely. Gold filled spheres mark every position instead. They sit along 925 sterling silver tubes and spheres for contrast. Nothing about the underlying reading changes, only the material telling it.

As a result, the piece suits anyone who wants the personal weight of a DesigNA necklace without a strong colour statement. First, it slips under a work shirt without drawing attention. Next, it pairs easily with other silver or gold jewellery, since there is no bright stone to clash against. Finally, it still carries all 23 of your DNA positions in the exact order your profile places them. The gold spheres do the same job the stones do elsewhere in the range.

The Silver and Gold Pattern DNA Profile Necklace is the strand version described here. A matching Pearl and Gold Pattern DNA Profile Necklace sets the same gold spheres among freshwater pearls. This gives a softer finish than a plain silver strand. Both sit inside our full necklace collection alongside the standard stone palette styles.

What it is not

For clarity, there is no pendant on this piece, no charm, and nothing engraved into the metal. The pattern lives entirely in the spacing and sequence of the spheres along the strand. A pattern necklace also has no fixed stone count to quote, because it has no stones to count in the first place. If a description ever mentions a pendant or an engraved design on this piece, that description is wrong. Our materials FAQ covers the stone palette we use on every other necklace style, for comparison.

Who takes the sample

An adult always takes their own cheek swab, with their own consent. UK law requires this, because analysing someone else's DNA without their agreement is a criminal offence. You are welcome to order the kit and post it on as the surprise itself. We can also make a piece from a child's DNA. This needs written consent first from a parent or guardian with parental responsibility. Therefore the gifting part can be a surprise, while the sampling part never is.

How the sphere pattern is set

Our partner jeweller in Birmingham sets every gold filled sphere by hand, in the UK, once your lab reading comes back. The sequence follows your own genetic markers, so no two pattern necklaces are ever identical. Curious how a DNA marker becomes a physical object at all? yourgenome.org has a clear, plain English explainer on genetic markers and what a lab actually reads from a swab.

Pattern necklace FAQ

Does the pattern necklace have any stones at all?

No. Unlike our standard palette necklaces, the pattern style carries no semi precious stones. Gold filled spheres mark each DNA position instead.

Is the gold on a pattern necklace solid gold?

The spheres themselves are gold filled. Sterling silver 925 tubes and spheres finish the rest of the strand. This keeps the piece lighter and more affordable than solid gold, while still showing real gold at every marker position.

Can I choose which positions get a gold sphere?

No. The order of your own DNA sets every sphere position, the same rule that places stones on our coloured necklaces. The customer never chooses the layout.

Does a pattern necklace take longer to make than a stone necklace?

No. It follows the same sampling and production timeline as the rest of the range. Only the marker material changes, not the process.

Can I buy a pattern necklace as a gift for someone else?

Yes. You can order the kit and give it as the surprise. The person whose DNA it is must still take their own swab and give their own consent once the kit arrives.

Before you buy

The questions people ask before they give one.

What is the most meaningful personalised jewellery I can buy for my partner?

A piece made from their own DNA. Engraving, initials and birthstones describe someone from the outside. A DesigNA piece is built from the code that makes them who they are, so it is personal at the level of the design rather than a message added afterwards. The Silver DNA Profile Necklace is £249 and the Pearl is £275, bracelets start at £179, and every piece arrives with a signed certificate of authenticity. One swab each makes two visibly different pieces for a couple.

What are some truly unique anniversary jewellery gifts for her?

The most unique anniversary gift is one that could only ever be hers. A DesigNA necklace or bracelet is made from her DNA and could not be produced for anyone else, so it marks the person rather than the year. The Pearl DNA Profile Necklace at £275 is the piece we would suggest first, and the bracelet range from £179 suits a smaller gesture. Swab early and the whole thing usually takes about three to four weeks.

What is a good one of a kind gift that is not engraved?

DesigNA jewellery carries no engraving at all. The personalisation is the pattern itself: the sequence of stones and spacers is set by the wearer's genetic profile, so nothing is written on the piece and nothing can be copied by reading it. If you want something personal that does not spell out a name, date or initial, this is the alternative.

What are the best DNA gifts in the UK?

DesigNA pieces are one of a kind by construction rather than by limited edition. Each is generated from a single person's DNA, hand made in the UK, and certified against the profile it came from, so two pieces are never the same. Necklaces run from £249 to £299 and £699 in 9ct gold, bracelets from £179, and the DNA Representation Pendant is £80 for gifting without a swab.

Can I buy a DNA necklace as a surprise?

You can surprise someone with the kit, not with the swab. An adult's DNA is analysed only with their own consent, so the swab has to be taken by the person wearing the piece. Most people give the kit as the visible gift, open it together, and the finished piece arrives a few weeks later as the second half.

How far ahead do I need to order for a birthday or Christmas?

Two parts are fixed: 2 to 3 working days for the kit to reach you, then 2 to 3 weeks of making from the day the laboratory has the swab. In between is however long the swab takes to come back, so swab early and it is usually about three to four weeks in all. For Christmas 2026 the order by date is Sunday 15 November. After that, give the kit on the day and let the piece follow.
