A necklace generated from your own DNA. Yours could never exist twice.

The laboratory reads your DNA with five dye colours. We have picked a classic stone for each colour, and you can swap any of them. Every marker then appears as a stone in your chosen colours, in the exact order your DNA places it.

This is the name printed on your certificate of authenticity. It is checked against the signed consent form that comes with your kit.

  • Free UK tracked delivery
  • Certificate of authenticity included
  • Made in the UK
  • 2 to 3 weeks from sample receipt

Delivery and returns

Free UK tracked delivery on every order. Your finished piece arrives within about three weeks of ordering. You have a 14 day cooling off period, which ends once your sample reaches the laboratory and analysis begins. Every piece carries a 6 month warranty covering craftsmanship faults, and faulty items are always covered by your statutory rights.

The certificate

Every necklace arrives with a printed Certificate of Authenticity showing your DNA profile and your stone colour key, signed and dated. It is the proof that your piece could never exist twice.

Your DNA and privacy

Your swab is read for identity markers only, nothing clinical, nothing ancestral. The physical sample is destroyed once analysis is complete and your marker data is deleted after delivery. Handling is governed by UK GDPR and the Human Tissue Act 2004.

How it is made

Your DNA writes the design

Twenty eight seconds from cheek swab to finished strand, animated with the same formula that will place your own markers. Turn the sound on for the narration.

The 9ct gold DNA necklace is a one of one piece designed entirely from your DNA. 9ct gold tubes and clasp, alongside gold filled spacers and natural semi precious stones, are arranged in a sequence dictated by your genetic data. No two pieces are alike. Available in three different lengths, each with a 2 inch gold filled extender chain.

How your 9ct gold DNA necklace is made

Each necklace begins with a DNA collection kit posted free to your door. A short cheek swab, sent back to our UK laboratory, generates the sequence used for your design. Your finished necklace is handcrafted by our partner jeweller in Birmingham, certified, and arrives in our signature packaging within 2 to 3 weeks from receipt of your sample at the lab.

  • Metal: 9ct hallmarked gold beads, gold filled spacers, gold plated extender
  • Stones: Semi precious stone markers, 4mm each, set along your piece in the exact order your DNA places them

More about this piece

Is the gold solid or plated?

The Gold DNA Profile Necklace combines three components. The bar beads are 9ct hallmarked solid gold. The small spacer beads are gold filled (a thick layer of 9ct gold bonded over a base metal core, far more durable than plating). The extender chain is gold plated. Hallmarked solid 9ct gold is the dominant material, used wherever the piece touches your skin most.

What stones sit between the gold beads?

Every marker appears as a coloured stone along your piece, in the exact order your DNA places them, with the metal beads holding the spaces between. Each stone is 4mm. Common picks include lapis lazuli, amethyst, citrine, garnet, and aventurine. The arrangement is dictated entirely by your DNA, not chosen for visual balance.

How do I care for 9ct gold?

9ct gold is harder than 18ct and resists scratching well. Standard care applies: remove before swimming, exercising, or showering. Apply perfume and skincare before putting the necklace on. Wipe with a soft cloth after wear. Store in the supplied jewellery box to prevent the chain from tangling.

Why the gold piece costs more

The gold necklace is built from solid 9ct hallmarked gold tubes and clasps, with gold filled beads and a gold plated extender. Solid gold does not plate away, fade or wear through. It is the version we recommend for pieces intended to be passed down.

  • The laboratory

Your sample is read by a laboratory with over 25 years in genetic testing.

  • The craft

Handmade in the UK by a partner jeweller in Birmingham.

  • Your sample

Destroyed after profiling. Nothing is stored once your piece is made.

  • Your privacy

Only non identifying markers are read. No health or ancestry data.

Questions, answered

How long does it take?

2 to 3 weeks from receipt of your sample at the lab. That covers laboratory analysis, design generation, handcraft by our partner jeweller in Birmingham, quality check, packaging, and UK delivery. Before that, the DNA collection kit reaches you in 2 to 3 working days after ordering, and the swab itself takes under a minute.

Is my DNA safe?

Yes. Your physical sample is destroyed once the laboratory analysis is complete. The resulting marker data is encrypted at rest and stored only for as long as needed to fulfil your order. After delivery, the data is deleted. We do not sell or share your data, and we do not read clinical, ancestry, or behavioural markers. You can request deletion of your data at any time.

Can I give this as a gift?

Yes. DesigNA pieces are among our most popular milestone gifts. Because the necklace is generated from the recipient's DNA, the most common gifting flow is to give the collection kit itself as the visible gift and let the recipient take their own swab and post it back. The necklace then follows as the second half of the gift. We can include a personal note inside the kit if you let us know at checkout.

What if I do not like my colours?

You choose the colours before we make anything. One stone for each of the five dyes the laboratory reads your DNA against, picked from the palette on this page. The colours are your choice. The order they follow comes from your DNA.

What exactly is in the box?

Your finished piece arrives in our signature packaging. A matte black outer box opens to your Certificate of Authenticity, then a navy sleeve, then the black jewellery box holding your necklace, laid out in a double helix. Your DNA collection kit arrives separately first, with a cheek swab, instructions, and a prepaid return envelope.
